Before the bus arrives for Small Dog Day …
We’ve been trialling over the last few days the shelter boys sleeping together in the new accommodation. Gradually increasing their time together and finally graduating to overnight. All was a success, so now they’re sharing their rooms and enjoying having their pals as room mates.
We’ve also been monitoring the dogs’ reactions to being inside and accessing furniture etc. For those that have suggested they have toys, they do have chew toys, but the purpose of this style of accommodation apart from comfort of course, is for their training. Everything for these guys comes back to training, because that’s how we can help them avoid returning to shelters in the future. Getting them ready for their new homes. It is better that they do this here with us and we can focus our training on these behaviours than it appear for the first time with their new owners and it possibly cause some issues.
First on the training schedule today, was advancing their drops. Duration, distance and distraction is what they worked on today. And they excelled.
We received a big box full of delicious wholesome treats from Farmhouse Pet Treats for the shelter doggies. They absolutely loved them. Thank you so very much Farmhouse Pet Treats for thinking of these guys and sending some of your yummy treats to spoil them.
After training, Jason and Luke were on a mission to relocate the Plover chicks that had recently hatched. With a bus load of small dogs on their way, it was very important that they guys get these babies out of harms way.
The Small Dog Day videos are on their way 💚
