A subscriber requested I train my dog Hariette to sit pretty. I accepted the challenge and started training. Eight weeks later, I finally have somewhat of a working model of the behaviour.
I tried different technics, with one hand, two hands, my arm, my wrist, etc. Hariette preferred the initial hand to help her find her weight. You’ll see through the video, how I try to adapt my training to help her.
Unfortunately, for the time being, I cannot continue training this behaviour because an Animal Behaviour Apprenticeship (level 3) student is training Hariette for imitation and another training technique. I’m not disclosing the technique yet, but the membership does cover the topic.
Here are the steps I used to train Hariette. Each step was R+ multiple times before we moved on to the next.
– R+ take her paw and push in to shift her weight
– R+ push her paw into her body
– R+ her weight transfer
– R+ weight transfer with less hand pressure
– R+ straight body position
– R+ better weight transfer and position
– R+ good position and body suspension
– R+ body suspension and hold time
When I revisit the behaviour, I will focus on these steps.
– R+ suspension time
– R+ longer hold to 5 sec
– R+ cue
– Test the behaviour
Thank you for watching, and please like this video and subscribe; it really helps me grow the channel.
